NANCY POLK RICHEY REED

Nancy Reed, 82, of Houston, TX passed away Friday, December 22, 2023. She was daughter of Walter and Blanche Polk Richey of San Augustine, born December 29, 1940. She was a graduate of Sam Houston State University.

Nancy had 37 years of English Education; 7 years in public school and 23 years in court reporting; first at McMahon College and then Alvin Community College where her title was English Instructor for Court Reporters. She held various seminars in Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. Her focus was teaching but she excelled in her relationship with her students. She became lifelong friends from high school to court reporters, whether socially or in the classroom.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Mollie R. Litton and husband, Rodney C, of San Augustine; nephew and nieces, Jeremy C. Litton and wife, Karen, along with their children; Tara Litton of Van Alyster; Pam and Larry McCurly of Corinth along with their children; Vernon Richey and wife, Stephanie, of Leonard, along with their children; JoAnn Rigsby and husband, Dwayne, of Plano, along with their children; sister-in-law, Patsy Whitton Richey of Richardson; as well as many more relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. Richey and wife, Blanche; brother, J.W. Richey III. She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends and her students.

A celebration of life service is set for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the San Augustine Methodist Church, located at 205 S. Liberty Street, San Augustine. Reverend Tim Turner will officiate.
