MARY LUANA SAMPLE MONTGOMERY

Funeral services for Mary Luana Sample Montgomery, of Geneva, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Buddy Pratt officiating. Visitation will be held prior to services from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Geneva. The daughter of Jack and Noba Dean Sample of Geneva, passed from this world to the next on Saturday, January 26, 2024 in Sugar Land. She was a member of Geneva Baptist Church.

Luana attended San Jacinto High School in Houston and regularly attended their reunions as recently as 2019. She obtained her BA and Masters degrees in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. She joined the Pine Burrs Sorority there which later became Chi Omega Sorority, into which she was also inducted in the early 2010s. Luana taught deaf children in Houston, 1st Grade at Thomas Johnson in Hemphill, and Special Education at Hemphill and in Houston.

After retiring from HISD and returning back to Geneva, she later taught 1st Grade at San Augustine Elementary for several more years. She was gifted with being able to teach many challenged children how to read, write and tie their shoes. She loved her 47 years of teaching students and they loved her back. She enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing, gardening, watching Hallmark, baseball, musical movies, and her road trip travels. She was always optimistic and ready to make a good time happen around her.

She married the late John Montgomery in 1965 and together they had three children and bought and renovated her beloved yellow house in Geneva, also known as Home. She always had her hand in many endeavors including The Eastern Star and PTA. She lived a full life and will be missed by her loved ones.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie, of Houston, son, Jeffery, of Geneva, son, Jay and daughter (in-law) Jennifer, of Richmond as well as her beloved Grandchildren, Madelyn Montgomery, Jack Montgomery , Emma Montgomery and Jenna Montgomery. Also her nieces, Renea Simmons of Houston, Brenda (Donald) Steptoe of San Augustine, Lesa (Mark) Sandidge of Geneva . She is also survived by many well loved Great and Great Great nieces and nephews.
