WANDA SUE MOODY LOPER

March 25, 2024

Funeral services for Wanda Sue Moody Loper were held Friday, February 2, 2024 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Alford officiating. She was called to her heavenly home on January 30th, 2024 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Sue was born on June 24th, 1948 in Six Mile, Texas, to Denton David Moody and Adalene Smith Moody. A long-time resident of Longview, Wanda (Sue) was a family woman. When her mother died when she was twelve years old, Sue eagerly helped take care of her younger brothers, whether it be school work or other daily tasks. This love of family grew even more when she and her late husband, Jerry Loper welcomed a child of their own. Their son Trent was born while Jerry was serving in Vietnam. Sue dedicated her whole life to Trent, as he was her pride and joy.

In addition to her love of family, Sue was very stylish when it came to her appearance and her home reflected her creative and decorative talents. More than anything, people will always remember Sue for her wonderful personality. She could carry on a conversation with anyone and easily made everyone feel loved and accepted. Her dry wit and humor would always keep people laughing, as she would tell funny stories. When chemotherapy started to impair her memory, she would still make people laugh as she referred to herself as a "Chemo Comedian."

When she was a teen, Sue became a Christian and was baptized by Reverand Rudolph Vance Purtell in the Mill Pond in Hemphill. Like many, she grew closer to God after her cancer diagnosis. She told her family she was ready to see Jesus and her loved ones who'd gone on before her. We rejoice that she had this blessed assurance. Many are left to cherish her memory, but no one will miss her more than her loving husband who held her hand day and night for her entire journey through cancer.

She is survived by her husband, Donnie McGough, of Longview; her son, Trent Loper, Jr. of Hemphill; 1 granddaughter; 1 great-granddaughter; sisters, Lanell Hardy and husband, Marlin, of Center, Patricia Cordray of Carthage; her brother, Reverend Charles Moody and wife, Linda, of Hemphill, Phillip Griffin of Rosevine; and a host of extended family and friends.
