CLYDE LEROY COOPER

Clyde "Leroy" Cooper, age 82, of Broaddus, Texas, passed away at his home on March 9, 2024. He left this earth peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Verna, and daughters, Chris and Trema.

Leroy, the youngest of four children, was born on October 22, 1941, in DeQuincy, Louisiana, to the late C.H. Cooper and the late Lois Edwards Cooper.

He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Leroy's earliest employment was as a collector for a finance company. He kept that job until he was able to gain employment as an electrician at DuPont Sabine River Works where he worked for 38 years before he retired.

Leroy married Verna Beth Richardson in 1962, and for 38 years they lived in Mauriceville, Texas. In 2000, they moved to their dream home on Lake Sam Rayburn where they resided for more than 23 years. He was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend and will be sorely missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Herman Cooper; his mother, Lois Edwards Cooper Daniel; and his brother, "Butch" Cooper.

Leroy leaves behind his wife, Verna, of 62 years; daughter Chris and her husband, Dwight of Denison, Texas; daughter Trema and her husband, Todd of Mauriceville, Texas; sisters Jerry Landrum and Jody Slaydon, both of Tyler, Texas; sister-in-law Evelyn Cooper of LaBelle, Florida; five grandchildren and their spouses, Caleb and Lacy Bickham of Manhattan, Kansas; Mackenzie and Casey Burleigh of Orange, Texas; Payton Bickham of Austin, Texas; Drake and Jaden Trawhon of Houston, Texas; Beau and Brittain Bickham of Mont Belvieu, Texas; and three great grandchildren, Briggs Burleigh, Aubrey Bickham, and Baylor Bickham.

Funeral Services will be at First Baptist Church in Pineland, Texas at 11 a.m. on Saturday March 16, 2024.

Cremation is being handled by Starr Funeral Home.
