J. B. "JAY" WAGSTAFF

Mr. J.B. Wagstaff of Jewett, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in Mexia, Texas, at the age of 87 years, 16 days.

"Jay" was born February 26, 1937, to parents Cecil and Vina (Dailey) Wagstaff and was a native and former resident of San Augustine County. Mr. Wagstaff had lived in several different communities of Texas laboring in various jobs to successfully provide for his families. Jobs have included tree trimming, carpentry, painting, wallpaper hanging, and pulpwood hauling, among others. Jay worked hard all of his life and would take on any challenge to get the task done.

Mr. Wagstaff enjoyed fishing and a great love for playing dominoes. Some of Jay's greatest joy, however, came from hanging out with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His survivors include his daughters, Linda Combs and husband Sidney of Kerens, Texas, and Tammy Coulter and James Solley of Jewett, Texas; sons, Rickey Wagstaff and wife Michelle of Odessa, Texas, and Crawford Wagstaff of Arkansas; sisters, Syble Williams of Lufkin, Texas, and Betty Sue Parker of Apple Springs, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Vina Wagstaff; a daughter, Sharon Jolene Wagstaff; and siblings, Malene Hickman, Ray Wagstaff, Mary Frances Williams, G.C. Wagstaff, Eldon Wagstaff, Herman Wagstaff, Patsy West, Nancy Mae Phillips, Linda Faye Long, and Weldon Wagstaff.

A Celebration of Life funeral service was held Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel. Committal service and interment will follow at the Hebron Cemetery.
