OTHEL DAYLE “O.D.” HUFF

Funeral services for Othel Dayle "O. D," Huff, 90, of Hemphill, were held Friday, April 14, 2023 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shawn Goodale and Pastor LaVita Vincent officiating. Burial followed services in Meador Cemetery, Milam, Texas with Gary Long, Jr., Blake Taylor, Michael Huff, Jared Huff and Chasen Brucia serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be provided by the Sabine County Honor Guard.

He passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Parkwood in the Pines in Lufkin, Texas.

O. D. was born in Cameron, Louisiana on May 1, 1932 to Cone Johnson Huff and Amelia Zu Nunez. He served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United State Army. After the military, he moved to Groves, Texas where he worked in the Petroleum Refineries as a Supervisor for Texaco.

In 1995, he moved from Groves to Hemphill to be near the lakes that he loved to fish and the woods where he loved to hunt. He volunteered as a firefighter where he had the opportunity to serve and be a chaplain for Groves, Pineland and Pendleton Harbor Volunteer Fire Departments. He was a member of the VFW, the DAV and also Pendleton Assembly of God. Over the years, he had been an Elder in his church in Groves and a Deacon at Harvest Assembly.

When his children were growing up, he coached them in baseball and softball and would umpire at games. He was known to give all those close to him nicknames. He never met a stranger and he loved everyone. In turn, everyone loved him. He was an early riser who loved to cook and he enjoyed gardening.

O. D. is survived by his wife of 27 years, Julie Huff of Hemphill; sons, Mike Huff and wife, Cindy, of Groves and Jeff Huff and wife, Wendy, of Harrison, Arkansas; daughter, Janis Wise and husband, Jimmy, of Milam; stepson, Shawn Goodale and wife, Amy, of Tyler; stepdaughters, Evette Brucia and husband, David, of Vidor and Deborah Ansley Geron of Anson, TX; sisters, Wanda Viator of Nederland and Bertha Gallendar of Beaumont; grandchildren, Michael Huff and wife, Tammy, Jared Huff and wife, Candi, Christina Taylor and husband, Blake, Gary Long, Jr. and wife, Wilhelmina, Shanna Brucia, Chasen Brucia, Jonathan Ansley and wife, Amber, Natasha McClelland and husband, Brent, Joyce Thompson and husband, Jason, Michelle Lane and husband, Rody of Fort Worth and Jason Geron; and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steve Huff; stepson, David Ansley; and granddaughter, Catherine Long.
