KEITH MICHAEL HAWKINS

Keith Michael Hawkins, age 74, of Coleman County Texas, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, on July 31, 2024, at 3:03 pm at the Pecan Bayou Nursing and Rehabilitation facility in Brownwood, Texas.

Keith was the loving son of Vernon Esker and Dorothy Jean Smith Hawkins entering their world on August 11, 1949 in Houston, Texas. He became the center of their world giving them much pride for all of his accomplishments.

Keith graduated from Spring Branch High School. He continued his education at Texas A&M University graduating in 1972.

Keith followed in his father’s footsteps with his love for teaching. He taught Texas History for many years until his retirement at San Augustine Junior High School. He learned the art of hard work and discipline from his parents, working for the family dairy farm. He carried these traits throughout his life instilling them into the many young minds he had the privilege of teaching.

Keith’s true love was hunting and fishing. He enjoyed hosting friends every year for annual deer, turkey, and dove hunts. He cherished those times and looked forward to seeing his “East Texas Family.” He also enjoyed teaching the next generation of hunters’ gun rules and etiquette in the vast fields of his ranch.

He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his Cousin Gayla Hawkins of Arkansas; Cousin Jeannie Patterson of Dallas, Texas; Cousin

Roger Dale Smith, of Paige, Texas; and Cousin, Chad Smith of Paige, Texas.

Special Friends include, Joe and Sharon Watson of Santa Anna, Texas; Ras and Misty Fuqua of Bangs, Texas;

Brian and Laurie Clay of San Augustine, Texas; Chad and Jena Boyette of San Augustine, Texas; Mike and Sharon Bridges of San Augustine, Texas; and Arthur Bush of Many, Louisiana.

Services were held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Coleman, Texas under the care and direction of Henderson Funeral Homes with interment at the Santa Anna Cemetery in Santa Anna, Texas.
