San Augustine County Burn Ban in Effect

County Judge Jeff Boyd announced that San Augustine County has been placed under an outside Burn Ban until drought conditions significantly improve. During Commissioner Court on Tuesday morning, July 25th the issue was discussed and the court decided to implement the Burn Ban. The Burn Ban went into effect Tuesday, July 25th, at noon and will continue until the Commissioner’s Court meets and votes to resend the Burn Ban.
All of the counties that border San Augustine County already have Burn Bans in effect.
The Burn Ban prohibits all outdoor burning except activities related to public health and safety that are authorized by the TCEQ for: firefighter training; public utility, natural gas pipeline or mining operations; planting or harvesting of agricultural crops; or burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager.
Outdoor cooking/grilling is permitted within a closed container with a lid, with proper disposal of ashes/coals. However, open flame including in-ground burn pits is prohibited.
Any violation of the Burn Ban is considered a Class C misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine of up to $500. Anyone violating the Burn Ban could also be responsible for any fire damages to someone else’s property.
