HAYNES MONROE DUGGER
Haynes Monroe Dugger, 102, of Hemphill, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023 at Hemphill Care Center.
Haynes was born June 24, 1921, in Butler, Tenn., to the late Elias Anderson Dugger and Lucretia Forrester Dugger.
After serving in the U.S. Army as a Private in the 28th Infantry at Camp Jackson, S. C., Dugger went to Detroit and worked at Kaiser Motor and at Packard Motors, where they built engines for P-51 Mustangs. After getting married, he worked for the Detroit Board of Education as a power plant Third Class Stationary Engineer.
An avid fisherman, Dugger fished all over the states of Michigan, Oregon, Washington and Canada, often as a field tester of Dick Swan fishing gear and was written about in various papers and magazines, including Field and Stream. He was also a long time member of the NRA.
He finally found Texas in 1985 and at 102 years and was a fixture in El Camino Bay. He could always be found on his front porch waving to passersby, feeding the birds or giving a treat to the neighbor’s dogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Stella Jurkiewicz and his sons 1st Lt. Douglas Alan and Dale Martin.
He is survived by his son, Richard Bruce.
A celebration of life will be held at the pavilion in El Camino Bay on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 12:00 pm.
Cremations arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home, Hemphill, Texas.
