HOWARD GAYLON WALLER

Funeral services for Howard Gaylon Waller, 84, of Hemphill, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating. Visitation will be prior to services. Burial will follow services in King Cemetery. He passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

Gaylon was born August 18, 1939 in Milam, Texas to Clarence Washington Waller and Leona Bragg Waller. He was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and a graduate of Hemphill High School.

Shortly after graduating from high school, he started his career in the automotive field at Hemphill Motor Company where he worked for many years doing what he loved. While there, he worked as a mechanic, parts manager and shop manager. After the dealership closed, Gaylon stayed on. You could count on him being there, always smiling, to help with all your automotive issues and inspections. His favorite things to work on were old tractors and old trucks.

Gaylon is survived by his daughter, Drenda Tate of Lumberton, Texas; brother, Martin Dale Waller of Spirit Lake, Idaho; sister-in-law, Donna Welch and husband, Albert, of Pineland; brother-in-law, Larry Parrie and wife, Carla, of Negreet, Louisiana; grandsons, Eric Brackin and Natalie of Lumberton, Scott Brackin and wife, Emily, of Lumberton, Kevin Brackin and Jessica of Taylor, Texas and Michael Tate of Lumberton; and great grandchildren Gavin, Naomi, Rachel, Saylor, Kate, Lauren, Bentley and Evelyn.
