FREDDIE MAC PARDUE

Freddie Mac Pardue, age 87, of San Augustine, passed from this life on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at his residence. Fred was born December 9, 1935, in Jonesboro, La., to parents Travis Booth Pardue and Helen Iva (McMurry) Pardue.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife of 21 years, Helen Blanche (Abbott) Fowler Pardue of San Augustine; his daughters, Pamela Sharp, Margarite Anderson, and Sharon Jandrain; his step-children, Lee Fowler Brady and husband Andy, Laura Fowler Dear and her sons Charles and Harrison, and William (Bill) Lee Fowler II. Fred had five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Fred is survived by his siblings Myrna Pardue Robbins and Cary Pardue and his wife Kathy. Fred was beloved by his numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred spent his youth in Jonesboro and graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School where he excelled in sports and academics. In addition to being Salutatorian of his class, Fred was elected class president all four years, “Best all Around” and “Most Likely to Succeed.” He helped JHHS win a state track championship in 1952 and many football games as the team’s quarterback.

A lifelong Tiger Fan, Fred graduated from LSU with a degree in history and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He also loved spending time in nearby New Orleans seeing great jazz musicians play live, in particular Bill Evans. He was also very fond of Gospel artists, Brian Free and Ivan Parker. Fred loved to sing!

Fred worked for the Texas Department of Agriculture for many years. Later in life, he reconnected with his childhood friend, Blanche (Abbott) Fowler. They married in 2002 and spent many happy years together in San Augustine.

A visitation will be held at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, LA, on Saturday, October 21 at 11 am, followed by a service at 1 pm.
